Every organization begins with a vision to meet a need. Adopted for Good began when a group of adoptees and adoption professionals realized that the national dialogue on adoption policies and laws was missing a vital voice – the adopted children whose lives were most affected by adoption. Although a number of adoption agencies and adoption support groups offered an opportunity for communication and support among adoptees, too many children were just not connected. In a day when communications, technology and social media makes "connecting” increasingly easier, the time had come to develop a coalition of adopted children who could help other adoptees, advocate for permanent families for those children still waiting and, based on a wealth of personal experience, speak up for the "best interest of children”.
The thoughts of developing such a group began in mid-November, 2013 and spread among a group of adoptees who formed an organizing committee. The enthusiasm to form the group continued to build, leading to the incorporation of Adopted for Good on December 26, 2013 and the launch of a web site and Facebook page on January 2, 2014. In less than 2 weeks, Adopted for Good – The Coalition of Adopted Children has captured the attention and support of hundreds of adoptees and others in the adoption community.
Our thanks to the original members of the organizing committee, whose ideas, support, encouragement, and enthusiasm made Adopted for Good a reality:
